PTA Sponsored Programs
Every student at Eddins Elementary benefits from the variety of programs our PTA sponsors to enhance and enrich their educational experience. Generous member support of time, talent, and resources helps ensure the success of these programs and others for our students and staff.
Your PTA membership and contributions help our
Eddins community by:
Advocating Social Responsibility - Jingle Bell Jog
Encouraging our students to be active participants in our community and learning about giving back to others at an early age, benefits us all. The Jingle Bell Jog allows students to experience firsthand the happiness in knowing how their kind action will bring a more joyful holiday experience to a peer of theirs at Finch Elementary here in McKinney. Eddins Elementary families, including our wonderful staff, have a rich history of opening their hearts to make the holiday season a brighter one for others in our community. Students select age-appropriate toys to donate for their peers at Finch and Eddins faculty and PTA members volunteer their time to deliver and wrap the gifts as the Finch parents "shop" for an item for their Finch students in need.
Supporting Health and Safety - Red Ribbon Week
Each fall, Red Ribbon week focuses on helping our students become more aware of the dangers of drugs. The Red Ribbon campaign began in 1986 when young people began wearing red ribbons in honor of a local Drug Enforcement Agent who had been killed by drug traffickers. The campaign went nationwide in 1987 and today the red ribbon is a symbol for drug prevention. The goal of this campaign is to provide a commitment to the creation of a drug-free school, community and country.
Promoting Interest in Literacy and Reading - Book Fair, Reading Night
The annual Book Fair generates great excitement for reading throughout the school. This school event brings the books right to our Learning Commons, where students can feel like they've stepped into their own bookstore, with cases of affordable books based on characters and subjects students are most connected to and interested in. With so many new and best-selling titles to choose from, there's certain to be something for everyone in the family! PTA volunteers help make this event a success year in and year out.
Fostering Community - Back to School Coffee, Donuts with Dads, Muffins with Moms
It takes a village at times and the annual Back to School coffee is a great way to connect with new and familiar faces after a summer away. This event, along with others such as Donuts with Dads and Muffins with Moms, allows parents the opportunity to visit in a setting that helps our students know we're all invested in their time at Eddins.
Enriching Assemblies - Special Assembly Presenters
Each year Eddins PTA provides funds for special assembly speakers or presenters to enrich the school year experience for students. Some of our most popular guests were traveling puppeteer, Nana Puddin, Pete the Cat author, Eric Litwin, and McKinney's very own hometown Olympian, Johnny Quinn.
Expressing Gratitude - Hospitality, Teacher Appreciation
We are incredibly fortunate at Eddins to have such a dedicated faculty and staff. Our PTA has the pleasure of recognizing and thanking our amazing team of educators in several ways throughout the school year. We celebrate our teachers, administrators, secretaries, nurse, counselor, custodian, cafeteria workers, and all other team members who make Eddins the outstanding school it is. These celebrations and signs of gratitude let them all know how much they are appreciated and how invaluable their daily contributions are to our children's success.
Delivering Communication - PTA website, school directory, Facebook
We utilize our website along with our Eddins PTA Facebook page so that parents have communication for all the PTA events happening at Eddins! There is also grade level Facebook pages parents can be a part of. When you join the PTA, you'll have access to our online school directory - also available on the Membership Toolkit app for iOS (android version coming soon). Stay connected in the most convenient ways to prepare you and your students for the school days to come!
